Nicolas Gaitan’s prayers have almost been answered.
Manchester United are closing in on a deal for Benfica midfielder Nicolas Gaitan and could have a deal finalized very soon.
According to the Metro, Nicolas Gaitan’s agent Jorge Mendes is flying to the Red Devils’ HQ in order to finalize terms of a deal with Man United. In addition, Gaitan has also reportedly said goodbye to his teammates in Portugal.
Gaitan would be the sixth transfer of the summer and more notably the third midfield transfer at Old Trafford, joining the likes of Morgan Schneiderlin and Bastian Schweinsteiger in the rebuilt midfield.
A top attacking midfielder and winger in the Portuguese Primeira Liga, Gaitan has spent the last five seasons with Benfica, winning back-to-back league titles with the club and Taca da Liga titles in four of his five years. His buyout clause with the Portuguese outfit is estimated at €35 million.
In 2013-14, Benfica won the League title, Taca da Liga, Taca de Portugal and finished as the runner-up in the UEFA Europa League – all while Gaitan recorded one of the best seasons of his career.
