Ramos had reportedly wanted a move to Old Trafford earlier this summer, but he has since stopped pushing for an exit as he prepares for the new season with the Spanish giants.
Furthermore, new boss Rafa Benitez has now praised the defender’s professionalism and insisted that he is going to be a part of his squad next season.
“For me, he is an enormous professional. In person, he applies himself, he does everything that the team and I ask of him,” Benitez said, according to Sky Sports.
“And for me, the matter (is that) the president has already commented that he is staying with the club.
“I have spoken to him at length in the summer about his ideas, about his future. I see Sergio as an integral part of our team, he’s a winner and that’s what we need in our team.”
It remains to be seen what effect this has on David De Gea’s future at United as the Spaniard was linked as being part of an exchange deal with the Madrid defensive ace.
However, it now appears as though Van Gaal will be looking elsewhere in his bid to strengthen his defensive line.
