Manchester United’s hopes of one day re-signing Cristiano Ronaldo have been dealt perhaps a fatal blow by his agent Jorge Mendes, who has insisted that the Portuguese will finish his career at Real Madrid.
Speaking at the premiere of Ronaldo’s eponymous film, Mendes was asked whether his client would ever return to the Premier League, and responded with an answer which will disappoint those at Old Trafford.

Just as United fans may have been getting their hopes up. Ronaldo hinted as recently as last week that he might be interested in a second spell with the Red Devils, whom he left for Los Blancos in 2009.
The three-time Ballon d’OR winner is quoted by The Mirror as saying: “In football, you never know what will happen tomorrow. “I feel great here – it’s a fantastic club – but tomorrow, I don’t know.”
He added: “People know I love Manchester United. It’s great there – they support me a lot… I’m very good here at Madrid, but in the future, nobody knows. Let’s see what’s gonna happen.”
Ronaldo may only have been humouring those United supporters who adored him during a six-year stay in which he won three Premier League titles, one Champions League trophy and one FA Cup.
Mendes has no such loyalties and can afford to tell the truth. And for United, the truth hurts.
