All good things must come to an end. For the Red Devils’ sake, Rooney’s last bow should be on a high note.
Wayne Rooney has been frighteningly unimpressive after the first month of the 2015-16 Premier League season, and Man United’s recent acquisition indicates to some that the Red Devils have a replacement in mind.
According to the Sun, Dorian Martial – the older brother of Man United’s new £58m wonderkid Anthony Martial – believes that the 19-year-old striker could very well be the next captain at Old Trafford and even of the French national team.
‘He has always been a natural leader in a team — he’s been like that since he was six,” Martial said of his brother. “My little brother isn’t someone who will shout at all the players around him. He doesn’t need to because he speaks with his incredible skills.
“Anthony is a talisman and has the ego and personality on the pitch to be a captain of Manchester United and even France.”
Since joining Man United out of Monaco at the close of the summer transfer window, Martial has shown incredible maturity, responding to questions as to why Wayne Rooney didn’t know him with a shrug and blunt answer instead of being a show-off.
Though Wayne Rooney had more goals in his career back when he was a 19-year-old wonderkid with Everton, many football minds project Anthony Martial to be on the ascent. Rooney, meanwhile, has struggled in the Premier League this season, getting blanked on the stat sheet in four straight matches.
