However, if Los Blancos insist on moving for their No. 1, the Red Devils will demand that an incredible move for Gareth Bale also be on the negotiating table.
The Daily Express say De Gea is currently debating whether to accept a massive £200-a-week contract extension or a return to his home nation.
United’s hierarchy want an answer from Real Madrid over their pursuit of De Gea by the end of May, say the Express, but they accept and relish the fact that if he does leave it will make their bargaining position for Bale that much stronger.
With Louis van Gaal’s side set to qualify for next season’s Champions League United are expected to conduct another summer of big investment.
The Daily Mail even claimed earlier this week they are planning to sign the likes of Mats Hummels, Memphis Depay and Nathaniel Clyne and still try and capture Bale.
