Manchester United defender Rafael da Silva has agreed to sign for Ligue 1 club Lyon on a four-year deal.
Rafael leaves Man United after eight seasons with the Red Devils, whom he helped lead to three Premier League titles.
A statement on Lyon’s official website confirmed: “Olympique Lyonnais informs of an agreement with Manchester United for the transfer of Brazilian international Rafael da Silva, who will sign in the coming days a 4-year contract with OL, ie until June 30, 2019.”
It is understood that the 25-year-old will cost Lyon around £2.5m.
His departure from Old Trafford became inevitable after Louis van Gaal did not include him in his squad for this summer’s pre-season tour.
Rafael fell down the pecking order at Old Trafford in the 2014-15 season, as he only made 10 Premier League appearances, with six starts.
Suffering a broken rib didn’t help matters for the Brazilian international either, as it kept him out for much of last season.
United made it clear that they intend to move on without Rafael, as they signed former Torino defender Matteo Darmian recently.
