Angel di Maria has broken his silence to explain his exit from Manchester United, saying he has set his sights on winning the Champions League with Paris Saint-Germain.
The Argentine international jetted into Qatar on Monday and has been undergoing a medical at the Aspire Centre ahead of a reported £44m move to the Ligue 1 giants.
It comes just a year after Di Maria signed for the Red Devils in a British record £59.7m transfer from Real Madrid.
The 27-year-old struggled in his debut Premier League season with United, scoring just three goals in 27 league appearances.
Reports suggested Di Maria struggled for confidence following an attempted invasion on his home by burglars in January, while it is widely understood he had difficulties adapting to life in Manchester.
Di Maria failed to report to United’s pre-season tour of the United States last month, but has now spoken out and revealed the reasons behind his move.
“I am very happy to join PSG. What I know about PSG is that it is a team that won all the possible trophies in France last season” Di Maria told beIN Sport, as reported by Daily Express.
“I also know that I want to overcome the obstacle that is the quarter finals of the Champions League.
“I am going to try to bring the best of my abilities to put myself at the service of this team, we are going to try and go as far as possible in the Champions League.”
