Manchester United have suffered a hammer blow in the chase for Neymar, with Barcelona reportedly set to hand the Brazilian a new and improved five-year deal.
The Red Devils have been heavily linked with a move for the former Santos man, but it’s understood the Catalan giants are keen to keep hold of one of its most prized assets.
The Sun this week reported that Louis van Gaal was preparing to smash the world transfer record with a £140m bid for Neymar, however, The Daily Mail reports that Neymar’s new deal will increase his buyout clause to a staggering £182m.
Neymar’s current deal with Barcelona runs until 2018, however, the new deal will see the 23-year-old become tied down to the club until 2021.
Should Neymar sign a new contract, it would surely put the Red Devils out of contention to sign the star Brazilian international.
United are light on attacking options, and with the transfer deadline just days away it remains to be seen if the Red Devils make a late swoop.
