Kevin De Bruyne may not be headed to Man United, but the fact that he’s moving away from Wolfsburg is a good thing for Louis van Gaal.
Man United were hoping to land VfL Wolfsburg star attacker/winger Kevin De Bruyne but once again came in second as their bitter rivals landed the German ace.
According to the Manchester Evening News, Manchester City are poised to acquire the reigning Bundesliga Player of the Year with a club-record £54 million transfer deal that should be completed within days.
Kevin De Bruyne was a flop for Chelsea when he joined the club in 2012, making just 3 appearances over a 3 year span before being sold to Wolfsburg for £18 million in 2014.
De Bruyne’s two years in Germany have resurrected his career as the 24-year-old Belgian led Bundesliga in assists in 2014-15 and won Bundesliga Player of the Year honors as well as the Footballer of the Year in Germany award.
Though Man United fans will undoubtedly be disappointed in seeing another star winger slip through their grasp, it won’t be a total loss as the absence of De Bruyne will seriously weaken VfL Wolfsburg – a club that just so happens to have been grouped with the Red Devils in Group B of the Champions League.
With De Bruyne’s help, Wolfsburg won the DFB-Pokal title and the DFL-Supercup – their first ever victories in both tournaments.
