Tim Sherwood keeps saying no, but Benteke keeps saying yes. Will the Aston Villa striker make a move this summer?
A tiny incident on Twitter may prove to be the big boost Man United have been looking for in their pursuit of Aston Villa’s star striker Christian Benteke.
According to the London Evening Standard, the 24-year-old Belgian scoring sensation recently went on Twitter and clicked “Favorite” on a Tweet from a Man United fan written about himself that stated “he’s exactly what we need tbh, just needs to be backup to (Wayne) Rooney”.
While Liverpool have been the featured contender for Benteke’s services, Man United still have a glaring need for a third striker after selling Robin van Persie – leaving just Rooney and James Wilson to lead the attack. The key factor that has prevented Liverpool from putting pen to paper immediately though has been the buy-out clause in Benteke’s contract, which requires £32.5 million in order to get the Belgian star to move; Liverpool is a bit strapped for cash and Man United are coming off a massive spending spree on the midfield and defense.
Benteke recorded 11 goals in his last 10 league games with Aston Villa to help the club escape relegation. He was the Premier League Player of the Month in April and was a huge part of the team’s run to the FA Cup Final. Benteke has scored double-digit league goals in each of the last four years and in five of the last six.
