Manchester United goalkeeper Sam Johnstone admits his future at Old Trafford is uncertain.
Sergio Romero shined with a clean sheet in his debut as Johnstone warmed the bench, and the 22-year-old shot-stopper admitted he did was unsure over his future due to the ongoing transfer saga relating to David de Gea.
“I’m not sure. Nothing has been said really. We’re waiting on different situations and have to see how it pans out,” Johnstone said, according to the Daily Mail.
Romero starting for Man United came as somewhat of a surprise, as he had only briefly trained with the team while Johnstone received significant reps throughout the pre-season tour.
Johnstone may be allowed to return to Preston, whom he spent the end of the 2014-15 season with on a loan deal.
Man United boss Louis van Gaal has already made up his mind that de Gea is not in the right mindset to continue as the Red Devils’ goalkeeper.
Since the Spanish international is rumoured to be on the move to Real Madrid, it is being considered too big of a distraction.
