According to the Daily Mail, United have re-entered into negotiations with Southampton and a representative for the club has travelled to the south coast to try and finalise a deal for the 25-year-old.
It is reported that the Premier League giants tabled a £20m offer for the French international last month, but that was swiftly rejected by Saints boss Ronald Koeman.
However, it appears as though they will return with an improved bid this time round to test the resolve of the Dutch tactician, with hopes that they can add him to the squad before they fly out for their pre-season tour of the US on July 13.
Southampton are reportedly looking for an offer closer to £27m according to the Mail, while Arsenal and Liverpool have also previously been linked with a move and may well be alerted by the news and return with a new bid of their own.
However, United are seen as the favourites to land the Frenchman, with suggestions that they see him as the long-term replacement for Michael Carrick.
