The Red Devils have made the World Cup winning centre-back their top transfer priority over the coming months, but recent reports had suggested that a potential deal had hit the skids.
However, a fresh round of reports are claiming that talks have resumed between the two, and United now have fresh hope at being able to complete the deal over the summer.
Hummels is a hot commodity in Dortmund, and his signature will likely set United back a whopping £37million.
His form, though, has come in for some heavy criticism this season. Hummels has been far from his best and has been at fault for a number of mistakes, but you could argue that he hasn’t been the only one off colour.
