Gaitan was superb in Benfica’s title-winning season, scoring four goals as the Liga Sagres giants powered its way to a record 34th domestic title.
According to Metro, Benfica president Luis Felipe Viera is believed to be in London negotiating with an unknown Premier League club.
However, it appears Manchester United lead the hunt for the 27-year-old, with respected Italian journalist Tancredi Palmeri tweeting that United were “intensifying” talks with Benfica over Gaitan.

The former Boca Juniors man joined Benfica in 2010 and has scored 21 goals in 126 league appearances.
Gaitan could once again become a replacement for Angel di Maria, after the Argentine replaced his countrymen at Benfica after Di Maria left the Portuguese giants for Real Madrid.
Di Maria is currently being linked with a move away from Old Trafford, with Paris Saint-Germain the favourites to land the winger’s signature.
