Manchester United were stunned by Chelsea, as they watched former Barcelona winger Pedro slip away from their grasp and sign with the Blues instead.
According to the Daily Star, United are still holding out hope that they can sign Real Madrid star striker Gareth Bale.
Red Devils manager Louis van Gaal and executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward are both confident that they can land the superstar.
The Red Devils have already made relatively significant signings in midfielders Morgan Schneiderlin and Bastian Schweinsteiger, along with winger Memphis Depay and defender Matteo Darmian.
It will be difficult to convince Real Madrid to sell Bale even if it is for £100m, as they ultimately held onto star defender Sergio Ramos despite interest from Man United.
However, Bale has received backlash from Real Madrid fans recently due to his perceived poor performances last season.
He still managed to score 17 goals in 48 appearances though, and a change of scenery may be just what the 26-year-old needs.
Van Gaal is keen to add more firepower to this front third this summer, with Wayne Rooney currently struggling for form.
While Memphis Depay scored two goals in the Red Devils’ Champions League play-off against Club Brugge, it remains to be seen if the Dutchman can make a similar impact in the Premier League.
