Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal is keen to beat Chelsea to the signature of Everton starlet John Stones, reports suggest.
Stones has been the subject of heavy transfer speculation in recent weeks, and Chelsea are believed to have had a £30m bid for the 21-year-old turned down this week.
The Guardian reports the Premier League champions are now weighing up a £40m bid for the 21-year-old, but United’s interest could drive the price up even higher.
Red Devils boss Louis van Gaal is believed to be keen to bolster his defence before the closure of the summer transfer window, and Daily Star reports the Dutchman is ready to make a move for the former Barnsley man.
Van Gaal has used Daley Blind in an unnatural centre-back position this season Phil Jones currently unavailable through injury.
Stones is considered to be England’s best up-and-coming defender and his home-grown status means Chelsea and United will be willing to break the bank for his signature.
