Manchester United have made Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane its top transfer target for next summer’s transfer window, according to reports.
Varane is considered to be one of Europe’s best young defenders, however, the France international has struggled for consistent first-team action at the Bernabeu due to the presence of Sergio Ramos and Pepe.
According to French source Le10Foot, United will focus its efforts in trying to lure Varane away from the La Liga heavyweights.
Chelsea have also been linked with a move for the 22-year-old, but it is expected that the London club will again make a push for wantaway Everton defender John Stones next summer.
Should Varane spend another season in and out of the Real Madrid side, he may look to make a move to Old Trafford in an attempt to gain more first-team action.
Real Madrid would demand a premium fee though, with Varane having only recently penned a six-year deal with the club.
