Ramos has been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford as part of a deal that would see David de Gea go in the opposite direction, however United’s £35m bid is independent of de Gea’s move, The Daily Mail reports.
According to the report, Ramos met with Real Madrid officials on Wednesday to confirm that he wants to leave the Bernabeu after ten seasons with the La Liga giants.
Ramos is believed to have requested that the club begin negotiations with Manchester United as the 29-year-old looks for a move to the Premier League.
Manchester United officials were believed to be worried that Ramos was using the De Gea situation to his advantage in order to be handed a new deal, but it now seems the Red Devils are in with a very real chance of signing the centre-back.
United boss Louis van Gaal failed to settle on a solid defensive combination last term and Ramos would bring a tonne of experience and class to the heart of the side’s defence.
