Chelsea slumped to a 2-1 defeat to Porto in the Champions League on Tuesday night, which produced further concern over their lack of consistency this season.
Despite wins over Arsenal and Maccabi Tel Aviv earlier this month, the reigning Premier League champions were unable to build on those results and were held by Newcastle at the weekend before being defeated by Mourinho’s old club.
However, Ferdinand, a pundit on BT Sport, has called for the club to stay behind the Portuguese tactician despite the fact that he believes that there are more deep-rooted problems at the club currently with the players “walking on eggshells”, as reported by The Express.
The former England international went on to remind all concerned of Mourinho’s history in the game and the trophies that he has won in his managerial career, and believes that the former Real Madrid and Inter boss will get things right for the club.
Mourinho will hope that he can get a reaction from his players when they face Southampton this weekend as they continue to sit in 14th place in the Premier League table and are eight points adrift of league leaders Manchester United.
