Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand believes that Arsenal have made the signing of the summer in Petr Cech.
Cech lost his place as Chelsea number one to Thibaut Courtois last season and was granted a controversial cross-capital transfer.
The goalkeeper, 33, cost Arsenal £10.9m when he arrived in June, a deal that Ferdinand does not think will be bettered in this window.
“Arsenal have made the best signings, I would say that even if they had just signed Petr Cech,” he told The Mirror after watching Cech help Arsenal beat Chelsea 1-0 in the Community Shield on Sunday.
“He is the best signing in the league, he is that important.
“There is a huge responsibility in that position as a goalkeeper. With him in goal they have got a better chance.”
Cech spent 11 trophy-laden years at Stamford Bridge, winning four Premier League titles, four FA Cups and the Champions League.
Ferdinand retired in the summer following a playing career in which he won 10 major trophies himself, and earned 81 England caps.
