Former Manchester United defender Phil Neville insists the club have to aim to win the Premier League title this season after last season’s poor form under David Moyes, the Daily Mail reports.
The ex-England international, who was part of the coaching staff at Old Trafford under Moyes’ brief reign, admits the 2013/14 campaign was an ‘absolute disaster’ for the club and that a big improvement is needed under new manager Louis van Gaal.
United slipped all the way from first to seventh in the space of just a year, but Neville believes that they can make that jump up to top spot again next May.
“Last year was an absolute disaster from start to finish,” he admitted.
On where United could aim to finish this season, he added: “I think we’re going to win the league. Second isn’t any good at Manchester United.
“We’ve got a great chance this year because there’s no European football.”
