The Belgian has had a superb season at Wolfsburg after joining from his failed spell at Stamford Bridge, and his incredible form – that has seen him accrue a staggering 25 assists this season in Europe and the Bundesliga – saw him linked back with an almost immediate return to west London.
Manchester United and Man City have also been linked as the Belgian continues to attract interest from around Europe, however in perhaps his first public response to such transfer rumours De Bruyne has effectively ended any hope of a redemptive return to Chelsea.
“I think, to be honest, that I would not return to Chelsea as long as he [Mourinho] is in charge,” he is quoted as saying in the Daily Mail.
Though perhaps it should hardly be surprising the 23-year-old has such a sour view on the Portuguese given the almost total lack of game-time offered to him during his time in the Premier League and given his vast improvement in acumen and form since moving to Germany.
