Left and right it seems that Louis van Gaal can’t seem to attract the big-name transfer targets despite a mountain of cash to spend. Is LvG losing his touch?

Borussia Dortmund midfielder Ilkay Gundogan will be out of reach for Manchester United this summer as the German star has re-signed with the Bundesliga club.
According to the Mirror, Gundogan has re-signed with Borussia Dortumund through 2017 – a sharp departure from recent reports that he was willing to sign elsewhere, particularly in the Premier League. Gundogan had just one year left on his current contract but in the end decided to stay in Germany.
“I am glad that we finally have clarity and I can continue playing with Dortmund,” Gundogan said, according to the Mirror. “I direct the focus from now on entirely on the preparation (for the new season).”
In four seasons with Borussian Dortmund, the 24-year-old German star has nine league goals and 13 total goals and has made 80 league appearances. Gundogan helped lead the club to a Bundesliga championship in 2011-12 and the following season the club finished as the Runner-Up in the UEFA Champions League.
Gundogan is just the latest Man United target that’s slipped away, with Louis van Gaal’s close friend and former star striker Thomas Muller politely declining a massive offer from his former coach most recently.
