Manchester United have made a big step towards the capture of Southampton midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin after putting an official offer on the table to the Saints, according to reports.

Schneiderlin has been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford, and the Manchester Evening News reports the Premier League giants put forward a £20m offer for the French international.
The report suggests that no deal has yet been reached, and the offer still falls short of Southampton’s £25m valuation of the long-serving midfielder.
Southampton are aware of Louis van Gaal is desperate to sign a top-quality holding midfielder this summer and will no doubt play hardball with the Red Devils considering the club is believed to have handed the Dutchman a £150m summer transfer kitty.
Schneiderlin went public with his aspirations to play Champions League football next season and it is understood that Southampton are prepared to allow him to leave the club, but not in a cut-price deal.
