Louis van Gaal is believed to be targeting three more signings to take Manchester United’s summer spending towards the £150m mark.
The Red Devils have already signed Netherlands winger Memphis Depay, Italy defender Matteo Darmian and midfielders Bastian Schweinsteiger and Morgan Schneiderlin for a combined £79m.
And now the Daily Express claims that Van Gaal wants to complete his pre-season business with a frontline striker, a world-class and experienced central defender and a goalkeeper.
The Dutchman would ideally like to lure one of Bayern Munich pair Thomas Muller or Robert Lewandowski to Old Trafford, but £22m-rated Barcelona attacker Pedro is a more realistic option.
United could also have trouble securing their top defensive target, with Real Madrid almost certain to keep hold of Sergio Ramos unless United agree to sell them goalkeeper David de Gea.
Van Gaal is determined to keep the Spanish stopper, but has identified Ajax goalkeeper Jasper Cillessen and free agent Sergio Romero as contingency options, with Victor Valdes also expected to leave.
