A week of hope that scoring machine Cristiano Ronaldo would rejoin Man United was ended by the star himself, calling the rumors of his departure from Real Madrid “absolutely false.”
Sky Sports quoted an interview Ronaldo gave with the Portuguese sports newspaper A Bola this weekend during his vacation in Miami, Florida, in which the 30-year-old megastar asked for “false reports” about his status in Real Madrid to stop.
“I would sincerely like the false reports to stop and to be left a little in peace,” said Ronaldo who is on holiday in Miami.
“Reports that I have sought to create conflicts between myself and Real Madrid are absolutely false,” the 30-year-old was quoted as saying in the Portuguese sports newspaper A Bola on Saturday.
“I am very happy at the best club in the world and very focused and confident of a new season full of successes.”
A breakout star with Man United in 2006, Ronaldo led the Red Devils to three consecutive Premier League championships and countless accolades before a record-setting sale to Real Madrid in 2009. Since joining the La Liga club, Ronaldo has been virtually unstoppable, scoring 225 goals in just 200 appearances and recording 31 hat tricks. He has scored 50+ goals in each of the last five seasons.
