According to Sky Sport Italia, the Giallorossi need an alternative to Maicon next season and have identified his Brazilian compatriot as the ideal candidate to add depth, as reported by Football Italia.
Rafael has been a target of Galatasaray this past week, although a move to Serie A to compete for honours both domestically and in Europe could be an appealing offer.
The arrival of Matteo Darmian has pushed the right-back towards the exit door, and after making just 11 appearances last season it appears as though it is a matter of time before he seals an exit.
The 25-year-old’s contact is due to expire next summer, but it is reported that he still has an €8m price-tag placed on him by Louis Van Gaal who is continuing to spend big ahead of the new campaign.
After eight years at Old Trafford, Rafael has failed to secure the right-back position as his own through a combination of injuries and lack of form.
The lack of faith has been evident given that Antonio Valencia has been asked to play the position at his expense, and so a departure this summer would undoubtedly give him the opportunity of a fresh start elsewhere.
