Manchester United have received a major boost in the chase for Cristiano Ronaldo, with one of Spain’s top player agents suggesting the player is likely to leave Real Madrid.
Metro reports the Red Devils have been actively pursuing its former player in recent weeks, but a move always looked unlikely with the La Liga giants keen to keep hold of its most prized asset.
However, player agent Santos Marquez says Ronaldo could leave the Bernabeu after selling his image rights to a third party.
“Will anyone speak out and Madrid why Cristiano has sold his image rights to Peter Lim?,” Marquez is quoted as saying by Metro.
“That’s not normal; it suggests that Cristiano is planning to leave.
“Imagine Cristiano generating 40 million euros elsewhere and giving it to Peter Lim, Valencia’s owner.
“It ends up in Valencia’s coffers and that’s deplorable.”
According to the report, United would have to dip deep into its coffers to sign the 30-year-old with Real Madrid valuing the player at £66.5m.
Ronaldo has scored an incredible 225 goals in 200 La Liga appearances since joining the club from Manchester United in 2009 in an £80m deal.
