Manchester United are believed to have made contact with Tottenham Hotspur over the transfer of England striker Harry Kane.
The Red Devils opted not to sign loan flop Radamel Falcao, now at Chelsea, and are close to selling Robin van Persie to Fenerbahce so have a void to fill up front.

The Sun claims that United want Kane, who scored 31 goals for Spurs in all competitions last season, to partner Wayne Rooney and are poised to make a £40m bid.
The 21-year-old is also seen as the long-term successor to Rooney as United’s attacking spearhead.
Academy graduate Kane is a beloved figure at White Hart Lane after his phenomenal breakthrough campaign, but Spurs might sell should they receive a “dizzying” offer.
United are thought to be stepping up their interest in Kane after seeing supposedly more attainable targets Mario Mandzukic and Carlos Bacca join Juventus and AC Milan respectively.
Spurs goalkeeper Hugo Lloris has also been linked with a switch to Manchester, but Tottenham reportedly hope to persuade both him and Kane to stay by offering them captaincy roles for next season.
The Lilywhites visit Old Trafford on the opening day of the 2015-16 Premier League campaign.
