Two things were shattered on Tuesday: Luke Shaw’s leg and Man United’s confidence.
Nothing destroys a team’s confidence quite like having a star player injured in the middle of a match. The Luke Shaw injury in the middle of the first half caused the defensive struggles to snowball into a two-goal giveaway that ultimately led to Man United’s loss.
The only positive takeaway is that the PSV Eindhoven match was the hardest one on their schedule. From here on out the Red Devils have just 2 road matches against the Pot 3 and Pot 4 teams as well as all three home games.
The Champions League isn’t lost, but this was a crushing blow to their Premier League roster and their confidence.
Here are the Man United player ratings from their loss to PSV:
David de Gea – 7/10
The defense wasn’t giving De Gea any help and those goals were on target. The saving grace was his ability to avoid outhinking himself and make the easy saves.
Luke Shaw (injured) – Marcos Rojo – 5/10
Shaw was doing alright until his injury. Thinks started snowballing in a bad way once Rojo got in though.
