Manchester United responded brilliantly to their 2-1 defeat at Swansea City by beating fierce rivals Liverpool 3-1 at Old Trafford on Saturday.
Second-half goals from Daley Blind, Ander Herrera and debutant Anthony Martial gave United all three points, despite a stunning strike by Christian Benteke.
Here, we rate and slate Louis van Gaal’s Red Devils…
David de Gea – 7/10
Wasn’t overly busy on his first appearance of the 2015-16 season, but he made a good diving save to thwart Danny Ings during a critic-silencing display.
Matteo Darmian – 7/10
Supplemented United’s attack well from wide positions, as well as keeping things tight at the back. Got booked for a clever ‘tactical’ foul in the second half.
Luke Shaw – 7/10
A mature performance from a player who seems to have grown up a lot after his underwhelming first season at Old Trafford.
Chris Smalling – 8/10
Excellent again. Made four interceptions and looked in total control, despite being up against the man mountain that is Christian Benteke, who scored an unstoppable bicycle kick.
Daley Blind – 9/10
Just as brilliant as Smalling at the back, but Blind was also on form at the other end. He opened the scoring with a superb first-time effort following a clever free-kick.
