Shinji Kagawa: 8
Constantly wanted the ball and hurt Newcastle all over the pitch. It was another great performance from the Japanese playmaker but it still seems unlikely he’ll start against Bayern, even with Mata cup-tied.
Juan Mata: 9
Brilliant. The Spaniard looked his old self in his preferred number 10 role, scoring a superb free kick, adding another and setting up Januzaj with a deft back-heel.
Javier Hernández: 7
The Mexican will have reminded David Moyes that he’s a useful option when a goal is needed. Was unlucky not to score more than one.
SUBS:
Adnan Januzaj (Young – 18′ ): 8
Impressive. Took his goal well and his link up with Mata and Kagawa suggests the future is bright.
Alex Büttner (Evra – 64′): 7
Solid. The Dutchman did his chances of facing his compatriot Arjen Robben again no harm.
Nani (Fellaini – 70′ ): 7
Showed some nice skills, and good link up with Kagawa and Mata, but wasted a good chance to score.
