Manchester United were handed a 2-1 defeat by PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League on Tuesday night, and the loss was compounded by a horror injury suffered by young defender Luke Shaw.
Shaw was tackled by PSV defender Hector Moreno and looked to be in immediate trouble as Moreno signalled right away to bench for medical help for the England international.
The 20-year-old suffered a double leg fracture and required oxygen as he was stretchered off the pitch at the Phillips Stadium.
After a tough 2014-15 season, the former Southampton man has been one of United’s key players this term and the injury will put a major dent in the Red Devils’ title hopes.
The news of the extent of Shaw’s injury has hit the United dressing room hard, with some players taking to social media to send words of support to their teammate:
Defeat hurts, but @LukeShaw23‘s injury hurts even more. We hope you come back even stronger!
