United have been monitoring his situation all summer long after it was reported that he made the Spanish giants aware of his desire to move to Old Trafford.
However, after negotiations with president Florentino Perez, he has come to a new agreement over his salary with his previous deal set to expire in 2017.
Ramos will celebrate his renewal with a ceremony to be held on Monday afternoon, and in turn it ends United’s pursuit of him as they will now be forced to switch their attention elsewhere.
Daley Blind has stepped in to help Louis Van Gaal keep two clean sheets to start the season, while Marcos Rojo has yet to return.
Nevertheless, it is still felt that the club need another quality option to ensure that they can sustain a Premier League title push this year.
