Ramos has been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford, while the La Liga giants are understood to be desperate to sign 24-year-old de Gea.
According to The Mirror, United had a £30m offer for Ramos turned down by Real Madrid officials and will only increase its offer unless the Spanish giants also table a higher bid for de Gea.
United are believed to value de Gea at £35m despite the fact the former Atletico man is in the final year of his contract at Old Trafford.
Real Madrid’s opening offer is understood to have been just below £20m, well off United’s valuation.
The Mirror’s report suggests that despite offers for both players currently independent of each other, it is expected the two deals will merge and a compromise will be reached.
Sergio Ramos is reported to have told Real Madrid officials of his desire to join Manchester United, handing the Red Devils a further boost at the negotiation table.
