Otamendi has been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford in recent times, and it now seems the path has been cleared for the Red Devils to swoop on the Argentine international.
Real Madrid were also said to be keen in Otamendi, but Daily Express [via AS] reports the La Liga giants have pulled out of the running for the player as they believe he has already agreed a deal to join Manchester United.
While Real Madrid are likely to now turn its attention to former player Ezequiel Garay, United boss Louis van Gaal is reportedly keen to pair Otamendi with Sergio Ramos.
A deal for Ramos is believed to be far from being complete, however it seems United have stumped up the £36m required the Valencia man’s buyout clause.
Otamendi has starred for Valencia after joining from Portuguese side FC Porto in 2014.
