Manchester United are facing competition from Southampton for one of their top January transfer targets, with Ronald Koeman identifying Bruno Martins Indi as a player he desperately needs, according to Caught Offside.

Martins Indi moved to Portuguese side Porto this summer, but has already been heavily linked with a move away in January.
Louis van Gaal is a long term admirer of the Dutch star, and with Manchester United’s current defensive worries he could be a valuable addition.
Southampton look to be in pole position to sign him however, with Koeman having worked with the 22-year-old back when he was at Feyenoord.
The Saints have had a fantastic start to the new campaign, with European football the target at the end of the season. Currently sat in second place, the Premier League club could prove a very attractive prospect for Martins Indi.
With United in a state of transition at the moment, a move to Old Trafford is anything but a safe bet. Martins Indi has worked with Louis van Gaal with the Dutch international side, but would that be enough to convince him?
