The Argentina international, who helped his side finish second in the World Cup, was tipped to join the Red Devils during the summer following a successful season under Jorge Jesus, but the 28-year-old instead opted to sign a new four-year deal.
But United gaffer Louis Van Gaal has kept his eye on the player and will make a move for him having learnt that Spanish side Valencia are interested in making their own offer, and will rush to meet the £23.3million release clause inserted in his contract.
United have been linked with a number of playmakers and enforcers, including Roma’s Kevin Strootman and Juventus’ Arturo Vidal, but according to reports, they will now look to match the buy-out fee of Perez and finally bring him to Old Trafford.
