Sterling has refused to sign a new deal with the Reds and Manchester United look set to make an attempt to sign the unsettled England international, The Mirror reports.
United are believed to have made an approach for Sterling in May which was rejected by Liverpool bosses.
However, United boss Louis van Gaal remains interested in the 20-year-old, with reports suggesting the Red Devils will table another bid in the coming days.
It seems Sterling will leave Anfield in the summer, but it remains to be seen if Liverpool will sell one of its biggest stars to its most hated rivals.
Sterling has two years remaining on his £35k-a-week deal with the Merseyside club but has rejected a new and improved £100k-a-week contract offered by the club.
Manchester City, Arsenal, Chelsea, Bayern Munich and Real Madrid are also believed to be interested in Sterling.
Brendan Rodgers is understood to be desperate to keep the youngster at Anfield, but the club cash-in on the player before his value decreases as he nears the end of his current contract.
