With Mario Mandzukic set to snub to Old Trafford and head to Serie A champions Juventus, The Sun reports United boss Louis van Gaal will now turn his attention to the Toffees star.
Lukaku scored 20 goals in 48 appearances for Everton after making a club record £28m move to Goodison Park following his highly successful stint on loan from Chelsea.
The Belgian international would be somewhat of a shock signing for United considering he only made his move to the Everton permanent last year, however the 22-year-old would no doubt be a valuable addition to the team’s front third.
Lukaku has previously aired his concerns surrounding Everton’s struggles in pushing for Premier League title contention, and the former Anderlecht man could jump at the opportunity to return to a top four side.
Everton struggled last term, finishing the season in 11th.
