According to the Independent at the end of last month, there were widespread reports that the Spanish international had specifically requested that his current employers deal with United.
It was reported that Ramos wanted to leave the club and join Louis Van Gaal in Manchester, and so it appeared to be a matter of time before the European rivals would begun discussions over a deal that would suit both parties.
However, despite suggestions that he has suffered a complete breakdown in his relationship with Madrid president Florentino Perez, Ramos was all smiles on Thursday after a team meeting as the pair hugged and laughed.

As a result, it is unclear as to whether or not any of the previous speculation had any truth in it, which will ultimately be a huge blow for Van Gaal who had hoped to continue to bolster his defensive line this summer.
