Man United look set to win the race for Barnsley defender Mason Holgate, according to reports.
United, Chelsea and Arsenal have all been understood to be tracking the defender, however, Metro reports Holgate has been spotted training with the Red Devils ahead of a possible move.
The report suggests the 18-year-old is rated at £1m, meaning United will have no issues sorting a fee with Barnsley over the player’s transfer.
Holgate has made 20 appearances for the League One side and has impressed in the English lower tier.
It is understood United are yet to agree a deal for Holgate, but Barnsley are resigned to losing the player.
Should United complete a deal for Holgate, he will become Louis van Gaal’s fifth signing of the summer following the additions of Memphis Depay, Matteo Darmian, Bastian Schweinsteiger and Morgan Schneiderlin.
United are currently in the United States on a pre-season tour and faces its first game against Club America on July 17.
