The Spanish playmaker has not always been a regular under Louis van Gaal and could be tempted to return to La Liga as Diego Simeone’s side reportedly show an interest.
United are also one of many admirers of the higly-rated young midfielder Koke, who has been linked with the likes of Chelsea, Manchester City and Barcelona in recent times.
Still, it could be that Koke will now make his way to Old Trafford if the clubs can negotiate a deal involving Mata.
