Manchester United are expected to open the bidding for Barcelona star Pedro at £18m this week.
The Spain international appears poised to leave the Camp Nou this summer and has been linked with Chelsea and Liverpool as well as a number of other European heavyweights.
The 27-year-old is believed to have a £20.9m release clause which Liverpool are willing to meet, but the Metro claims that Louis van Gaal has set his sights on signing the World Cup winner.
Van Gaal’s next transfer priority is a top-class attacker, but the Dutchman acknowledges that it could be difficult to lure Thomas Muller or Robert Lewandowski from Bayern Munich.
Pedro, also a multiple-time La Liga and Champions League winner, is a proven alternative, having scored 88 goals in 256 games for Barcelona despite not always being a regular in their forward line.
He only signed a new contract in Catalonia last month, but has reportedly had fresh thoughts about his future following Barca’s signing of Turkish international winger Arda Turan from Atletico Madrid.
