Manchester United have reportedly joined the race to sign Everton starlet John Stones.
The England international has been heavily linked with moves to Chelsea and Manchester City, but The Mirror reports Louis van Gaal is now keen to lure the 21-year-old to Old Trafford.
Everton are understood to be desperate to hold onto Stones, however, the report suggests United are will offer fringe defender Johnny Evans as bait in player-plus-cash deal.
Van Gaal is on the lookout for a centre-back, with it looking likely number one transfer target Sergio Ramos will ink a new long-term deal and remain with Real Madrid.
According to The Mirror’s report, Chelsea have had bids of £20m and £26m rejected by the Toffees and it is believed only an offer of over £30m could tempt the Merseyside club into selling the player.
While Chelsea are understood to be preparing a third offer, United could swoop on Stones by offering big cash and Northern Ireland defender Evans.
Everton are reportedly eyeing Swansea City defender Ashley Williams as a replacement for Stones, however the Swans have placed a remarkable £25m asking price on the Wales captain.
