According to The Guardian, United have had an initial bid of £20m rejected by the Saints and will have to increase its offer to a staggering £27m if the Premier League giants want to bring the 25-year-old to Old Trafford.
Saints manager Ronald Koeman says his club will stick to its guns and will not sell the French international until United reach its asking price.
“Every player has his price and we have experience as a club of selling players,” Koeman is quoted as saying by The Guardian.
“Last season we sold some players, and if there is interest in Morgan then OK. But it has to be at the price the club wants. He is one of the key players or our team, an international player. And I don’t think is a problem for Manchester United.”
United boss Louis van Gaal is looking to bolster his midfield as the Red Devils plan an assault on the Premier League title next season.
Schneiderlin has already stated his intention to play Champions League football next season, but it seems United will have to dig deep into its coffers to land the holding midfielder.
