The 31-year-old had reportedly been lined up as a possible replacement for David de Gea, as reported by Football Italia, with suggestions that the Spaniard is bound for Real Madrid.
While he may leave either this summer or next on a free, Handanovic had been placed on the shortlist of future United No.1s, but it doesn’t appear as though he is interested in a move elsewhere any time soon.
“Handanovic will stay with Inter at 100 per cent,” his agent, Federico Pastarello, told Tele Radio Stereo 92.7.
“There’s an informal deal for the contract to be renewed, and it will be formalised over the next few weeks.”
It remains to be seen whether or not this is merely a measure from the Nerazzurri to ensure that they can strengthen their position and maximise the Slovenian’s price-tag.
However, for the time being it doesn’t appear as though the experienced stopper will be available this summer should United need a new man between the posts.
