Louis van Gaal has one of the fastest rising stars in football in his sights and is willing to shell out as much as £50 million in a bid for Tottenham star Harry Kane.
According to Goal, Man United is poised to pull a Vito Corleone and make Tottenham Hotspur an offer the club can’t refuse: £50 million along with Javier Hernandez, Nani and Adnan Januzaj in exchange for the PFA Young Player of the Year Harry Kane.
£50 million would make Kane one of the highest paid players in the Premier League, and a move to Man United would no doubt given Louis van Gaal the kind of overwhelming firepower that the club lacked at times. Leading scorers Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie combined for 22 goals in the Premier League – just one more than Kane did this past season, despite combining over 30 shots more than Kane needed.
In his first full season with the Spurs after a short 2013-14 season and four prior years on loan for a variety of clubs, Kane exploded onto the scene with 21 league goals, 3 league cup goals and 7 goals in UEFA. Kane was named Premier League Player of the Month in both January and February, and was named to the PFA Team of the Year as the Forward alongside Diego Costa.
Goal also reported that Robin van Persie may be interested in leaving Old Trafford, which could open the door and wallet wide enough for Man United to bring Kane into the fold.
The main question will be: Does Tottenham have the fortitude to keep Kane and try to build around him, or will they let their young superstar beat them next year?
