Man United teen STAR becomes loan TARGET of ex-Premier League club
Manchester United are keen to sign Torino full-back Matteo Darmian and are preparing to offer Torino £14m, according to The Express.
Despite Man United’s apparent desire for the defender, Red Devils boss Louis van Gaal was reportedly warned not to make this sort of bid by scout Jim Lawlor.
“He is no better than the players we currently have, I don’t see any room for improvement,” Lawlor reportedly said.
Lawlor may be in luck since Darmian is also being pursued by clubs such as Arsenal, Bayern Munich and Napoli.
Darmian has spent the last four seasons of his career with the Serie A club, who finished in ninth place in the 2014-15 standings.
The Italian international showed moderate scoring ability for Torino last season, as he made two goals after going two seasons without one.
Man United will need all the defensive help they can get, but it remains to be seen whether there is any truth to Lawlor’s assumption that Darmian would not help the club improve.
