Manchester United came away with a hard-fought 1-0 victory in its season-opener against Tottenham on Saturday.
Midfielder Michael Carrick is seeing the twilight of his career at Old Trafford, as he is 34 years old. However, he is pleased with the additions of fellow midfielders Bastian Schweinsteiger and Morgan Schneiderlin.
“Morgan has been at Southampton for a number of years and has been a very good player in the Premier League,” Carrick said, according to the Daily Mail.
“Over the last three or four years, he has had some great performances and we have all seen that.”
Schweinsteiger and Schneiderlin were respectively signed from Bayern Munich and Southampton.
The German international came off the bench for Carrick in the Red Devils’ victory, but Carrick still has a high level of confidence in him.
“Basti is slightly different. He is new to England, but at the same time we all know exactly what he is all about. He’s achieved so much,” Carrick said.
“It’s like with any new signing, the boys ask questions and you try to pick things up from their experiences and try to learn from it.”
Schweinsteiger was shown a yellow card shortly after entering the match, but he was able to settle down.
Schneiderlin put in a strong shift in the middle of the park and could again keep Schweinsteiger on the bench for this weekend’s clash with Aston Villa.
The French international is expected to become a long-term successor to Carrick
